From time to time, we will be sharing some inspirational quotes and will recommend great books to pick up. They won't necessarily be industry books but books that will enrich your life and help you grow as a person. I will try to do this at least once a week.
In order to be great at anything including performing, you must do a lot more than know how to perform. We hope that you will take something from this and please pass it on. This was passed on to me by my yoga teacher Linda Zelicki a while back and we want to share. The book was first recommended to me by Mandy Cheetham years ago. Thank you ladies for sharing this with me.
This inspiring quote by Marianne Williamson is from her book, A Return To Love: Reflections on the Principles of A Course in Miracles. It was also used by Nelson Mandela in his inaugural speech. He has been credited many times for this quote but it is Marianne's.
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you.
We are all meant to shine, as children do.
We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

Update on The Summer in L.A. Performance Intensive
Just announced!
June 25 - July 2, 2010
The Summer in L.A. Performance Intensive will now be open to dancers 16 years old up to adults, including dance teachers worldwide. This program is by invite only.
Dancers over 18 and over 21 are strongly encourage to join us.
Dancers under 18, require parental permission to attend the experience and to be in Carnival. This is the ideal program for those who have had a successful time with previous Summer in L.A. programs. It's like Summer in L.A.II
If you are a previous Summer in L.A. or Broadway Bound dancer, Be Discovered may want you to attend this program. You will receive an invite from us before February 14, if you haven't already received one. If you have never attended one of our trips, you can audition for a spot to dance alongside the hottest Be Discovered dancers and other professionals.
We want to see you on that Carnival stage!
The brochure and more info will be available in the next few days.
Imagine going home after a week long intensive in Hollywood with this memory to last a lifetime: YOU on the Carnival stage in front of all of LA's dance lovers and professionals. You also get a copy of your stage performance that you can share with your friends, family members and even start your professional demo reel with.
For those wishing to audition in person, you will have the chance to audition at our March Break Intensive. If you aren't attending the intensive, an audition time may be scheduled for you during this week. Contact us for more information if you're interested. info@bediscovered.net
The March Break Intensive schedule and final faculty will also be announced this week. We may also be moving to a larger, more central location. Check back for updates.
Space is limited and we will sell out/fill up soon. We have had many talented dancers throughout the years and so far, the response has been astounding. Also now that we almost weren't able to offer this to those under 21, now that we are, the excitement is even more so now.
We look forward to this summer, for Summer in L.A.
For those who aren't interested in performing in L.A., come train with us with one of our other Summer in L.A. intensives.
If you are a dancer who is young at heart and wants to see how it would be to experience L.A's professional dance world as well as the performance opportunities at Disney, the Junior Intensive is just for you. This is open to dancers 7 years up to adults, including dance teachers worldwide. This is July 5 - 12. http://bediscovered.net/pdfs/SILA_Juniors.pdf
For dancers 13 and older wanting to train in many dance styles and be in a music video, the Dance Intensive is just for you, July 19 - 26. For those interested more in street stylz, we have the Hip Hop Intensive that also travels to Vegas July 26 - August 2. If you can't pick one, do both, with the Extended Intensive July 19 - August 2. http://bediscovered.net/pdfs/SILA_Dance%26HipHop.pdf
So many options to choose just one.
More info coming soon to help you decide which to attend. For those who can't get enough of dance, spend 2 to 4 weeks with Summer in L.A.
YES! the Image is Everything! The Hollywood Make Over is back this year. It will run 4 days before the Dance and Hip Hop Intensives. Dates and info also coming soon. This year we have new hair and make up people who will make the program even better.
The Summer in L.A. site will be updated this week. Thank you for your patience. http://www.summerinla.com
It's been a hectic few months. My parents just moved back to Colombia, so come new responsibilities with the home and we just launched our revamped site which we are excited that everyone is liking it.
As we go along, more resources and services are being added. Keep up to date here on our blog and in our Calendar. Our Face Book as well has updates, audition info and much more. www.facebook.com/bediscovered

More auditions and opportunities in our new online Calendar and on Face Book
Didn't the new decade just start like yesterday? Wow! January is done and it's already February. Not complaining as that means that spring is just around the corner and so is our Toronto March Break Dance Intensive and then our Summer in LA and other summer programs including the Vegas Convention.
Valentine's Day is just next week too. I miss those days when we were kids and you would give Valentine's cards to everyone you loved. It was all about love and we loved our families, our girl and boy friends, our teachers. It seemed everyone got a card. What happened? Why is it now just the day to love your significant other?
In Colombia, the country where I was born, Valentine's day is called the day of love and friendship and it's on September 20th.
On our Calendar, we have audition listings for dancers for Cirque Du Soleil's Vegas auditions, the AGO in Toronto and many more. For singers and musicians, there are a couple of free music seminars. For actors there is a theatre audition for Beauty and the Beast in Simcoe and for models, Paul Mitchell hair show needs some models.
This is a great month for opportunities for specialty talent, dancers, actors and models.
This is what the new Be Discovered is all about. Providing information and leading industry news here on our blog and in our Calendar. www.bediscovered.net/calendar
We also have a Face Book page where we also share industry news, workshops, auditions and more. www.facebook.com/bediscovered
I love to write and I wish I could be blogging all day to keep you up to date on all that is going on, but this is a really busy time of the year setting up programs and with the launch of the new Be Discovered site.

About Be Discovered
- Diana Uribe
- I was born in Colombia and moved to Toronto at 7. Ever since I learned English, I've loved to write and plan to write a book in the future when I am not as busy running my company Be Discovered. I work a lot but also love to travel, go to drive in movies, read, nature, the ocean and the stars (industry ones too but mainly the real ones). I also enjoy yoga, dancing and bike riding. I will blog as much as I can in my spare time, which is not much these days. For more on me, check out http://bediscovered.net/about_us.html
