So You Think You Can Dance Re-Runs

This is Diana, Summer in L.A. director.

I am in Toronto right now and happened to be watching a re run of So You Think You Can Dance on Much Music. I am so happy that I kept the TV on. I don't watch a lot of TV but recently have been tuning in weekly to see America's Best Dance Crew.

FREAK THE VOTE!!!!

I am so excited that the episode that is on right now is the same show that had our 2008 Summer in L.A. Dance Intensive dancers in the audience. OMG. I started crying of excitement. I am also sad as my aunt just died in Colombia yesterday so I am just overwhelmed with emotions. R.I.P. Rosa. Our prayers are with you and your kids, grandkids and the rest of the family that is mourning your loss.

Believe it or, I had not seen this episode and it has been 7 months. Just last week I was hoping that I would see it soon. I don't attend the taping while in L.A. as during this time, we are busy with the organization of the rest of the Summer in L.A. week. Would love to be there, but I never can be.

The universe is great as we get that which we really want. We just have to know what it is and just put it out there. I really wanted to see this and was just thinking about it.

I became a bit nostalgic as I remember how excited the dancers were that day of the show. They got to see the Los Angeles ballet as well as LL Cool J and the Dream perform. Even if you're not into the artist performing, it is still an amazing experience to be at CBS Studios and be a part of a live studio taping.

I was so excited to be able to see some of the dancers in the front rows and on the podiums. I feel really happy to, that we were able to give them the opportunity to be there.

Next week, I will try to watch the next episode when Lady Gaga will be on, along with our Summer in L.A. Hip Hop dancers.

Can't wait to find out who will be the special guest performers during this years Summer in L.A. The Dance Intensive and the Hip Hop Intensive.

Can't wait for summer. Tired of the cold and winter weather here.

Just 5 months to go and we will have just started the Dance Intensive~

Image Is Everything! The Hollywood Make Over

Thank you everyone for your patience in awaiting info on our new add on to this years Summer in L.A. - The Image Is Everything! The Hollywood Make Over.
http://www.summerinla.com/image.html

If you're doing the Dance Intensive http://www.summerinla.com/program_dance_intensive.html or the Extended Intensive
http://www.summerinla.com/program_extended_intensive.html , then your make over experience is July 17 - 20

and if you're doing the Hip Hop Intensive http://www.summerinla.com/program_hiphop_intensive.html , then your make over experience is July 24 - 27.

The Make Over is also open to male Summer in L.A. dancers.

Time permitting, the moms will be able to also get a make over. Details on this...coming soon.

The wait has been worth it as during this time we have been customizing the best possible experience for you.

Our program includes your airport transfers, emergency medical insurance for Canadian dancers, chaperones, accommodations, meals, before and after photos and the 3 night/4 day experience.

The program is not to change you, but to enhance your natural beauty. If you don't feel beautiful, this program will change you from the inside out as it will improve your self esteem and confidence and the way that you and the world sees you.

Before the program, you will be given some quick and easy assignments to help you and the stylists learn about your personality and fashion likes and tastes.

You will work with fashion consultant and stylist to the stars Katina Lekerr. Katina works on movie sets in the wardrobe department and is a make over specialist. Credits include Dawson's Creek and Spiderman 3, to just name a few.

When you first meet Katina the day that you arrive in L.A., she will do a review of your existing wardrobe. She will see what works, what doesn't and needs to go as well as offer tips and advice along the way. She will learn about your goals as well as be able to answer any questions you may have. This is like your closet's make over.

You will also have a professional photographer take your "Before" photos.

The next day, Katina will then do a color and style consultation for you. You will get lots of goodies to take home with you to help you keep up with your new image. This includes a 100 color palette as well as a 36 page style book on how to use your colors, tools to use in the future as well as you can use it to take notes during the make over. As this is a group experience, you will also learn about being a professional and working with other professionals and dancers in an informative, yet fun experience. You will not only learn a lot from the pro's, but also from each other.

Later that day, you will travel to Hollywood for your shopping experience to the Beverly Center (as seen on 90210) with personal shopper and stylist to the stars Katina Lekerr.

Even if your shopping budget is $20 or $50, this experience will be life changing. You can still learn how to shop like a pro and save time and money even if you're not planning on doing too much shopping in L.A. As an expert will still be with you, you will learn how to buy outfits that work for you and your new image and look for when you do need to shop.

The Beverly Center has many high end shops but dancers tend to like reasonably priced stores like Forever 21, as an example and we will also hit some of the departments stores like Macy's or Bloomingdale's.

Check out the mall site to see a list of the stores in this really beautiful mall. http://www.beverlycenter.com/IM/index.html

If you do have a shopping budget, you will love this experience even more so. You will have new clothes for your week but also for the photo shoot.

For the female dancers, you will spend some time in a lingerie store with Katina for your Bra workshop. As seen on Oprah and many entertainment shows, your bra will change your life as it will change your look and how your clothes fit you. Katina co-designed the bra worn by "Trinity" in the Matrix where everyone thought that she had used cosmetic surgery to be able to look so good.

By now, you will have a new found self with your confidence and way of looking at style and yourself. Now you're ready for your make over.

The following day, Mikel (pronounced Michael) Sky, celebrity hair and make up stylist will work side by side with Katina on creating a look that works for you. Mikel's credits include Lady Gaga, Britney Spears, Disney and many more. She owns and operates "Skybox", Hollywood's only mobile hair and make up trailer. The 30 ft trailer will accommodate all the dancers so this is an experience in itself.

How cool is this! You will be styled in an industry trailer just like the stars do when getting hair and make up done for a music video or film.

Mikel and her team will do your color and cut (optional) and style as well as your make up.

There is also a make up lesson so that you are able to keep up with your new look.

Make up and products used are natural and eco friendly. It is important to be as green and natural as we can. This is not only for our health but for the health of the Earth.

Each dancer will get more goodies including a starter make up kit to use for the rest of the week and take back home after the program.

Learn about shaping your brows, skin and hair care, nail care, the importance of your teeth and your smile, nutrition, fitness and so much more.

A top Hollywood photographer will take your "After" photos.

The final day of your make over experience, you will spend half of the day with Katina. She will meet with you for the last time during the make over experience to review your experience, offer tips and answer any questions you may have. She will also review your wardrobe again and help you put together looks using your existing wardrobe with your new clothes that you have from the shopping experience.

You will now have the chance to do your own hair and make up and wear a look put together by you and Katina.

After lunch, the Summer in LA dancers will arrive for the start of Summer in L.A. At this time, you "all made up" and full of confidence that you never thought you would have, will meet your new dance friends and start Summer in L.A.

Can't wait for summer.

More info coming soon.

Violence is never an option

Working with many young people, we feel that it is important to teach them to be the best they can be, not just in dance but in the industry.

Many things though need to be taught at home and should be instilled when we are really young.

It is very sad that in the year 2009, some people still think that violence is an option and a solution. It never is or should be.

Chris Brown is someone who has experienced abuse first hand as his mother was a victim of domestic abuse. He had vowed to not lead his life this same way as he saw what his mom went through. Unfortunately, if the allegations against him are true, he was unable to be different.

Regardless how talented and cute he may be considered, no one should support his music or his career. He is in the public eye and it's important for young people worldwide to never support such behaviour and individuals.

Chris Brown is an artist that many of our faculty has worked with including Beat Freaks Maryss from Paris as well as Duece the prince of krump. He is considered an awesome dancer. It is sad though that someone so talented could have screwed up like this. It is really sad. His career going down hill will also mean that a lot of talented dancers will lose their job.

Hollywood is a tough place and he is a really young man who obviously is not grounded and as a result, this will cost his career and already has.

He did release a statement apologizing and saying that he needs help, so we assume then that the allegations are true.

Rihanna is an artist who also books dancers. She shot a video in Toronto where Be Discovered supplied talent for. Rihanna is a victim and it's important that she too tells her story as everything happens for a reason.

We doubt that this all is just a publicity stunt. This is very serious and it is important that we sympathize with her and wish her the best. She is talented and beautiful and is a working woman doing her thing. This no doubt will and has affected her life and her career as well. She is also a very young woman, just turning 21 next week.

We have decided to talk about this here as violence is usually shunned and not discussed.

This has hit close to home as they are both young people in Hollywood who love to dance. We wish both of them lots of love and healing, as this is something lacking in their lives.

All the best to Rihanna and we hope that this can be turned into something positive to help young people know that violence is never an option and when used, it will have repercussions.

Love, not war!
